Tooth Extraction

Tooth extraction is the removal of a tooth from its socket in the bone. The most common tooth extraction is the removal of Wisdom teeth. Wisdom teeth are the last of the adult molars, usually coming in throughout the teenage or early adult years. You will either have wisdom teeth that grow in fully with perfect alignment or you will not.

Description

Losing a tooth is never fun but sometimes it is the best option to keep the rest of your teeth healthy. We know that having a tooth extracted can be a stressful experience which is why we make sure you are in a comfortable and calm environment.

What Is An Extraction Like?

We begin the tooth extraction by injecting your gum with an anesthetic which helps to dumb the surrounding area. Once the area is numb we use up to date techniques to ensure the tooth is safely removed. We detach the tooth from the ligament and remove the root from the bone. Once the procedure is completed, our dentists provide you with instructions to help you recover quickly.

Tooth Extraction Recovery Tips

  • It takes about 1-2 weeks to recover
  • Take pain medication as directed by your doctor
  • Ice the outside of your mouth to reduce and swelling
  • Eat soft foods
  • Rest for the first 24 hours to jump-start your recovery

Wisdom Teeth
Wisdom teeth are the last of the adult molars, usually coming in throughout the teenage or early adult years. You will either have wisdom teeth that grow in fully with perfect alignment or you won’t. The majority of people will experience misaligned, impacted, or partially erupted wisdom teeth. This can result in damage to the surrounding nerves, bone, and tissue in the mouth. It can also occasionally force the surrounding teeth into misalignment, resulting in a crooked smile.

The best way to guarantee a smooth and speedy recovery is to follow the instructions of your dentist. Our dentists will ensure that the removal is quick and painless, and provide sound guidance to a smooth, quick recovery. During the removal procedure, you will receive a numbing agent that should prevent you from experiencing any pain. If you do experience pain, please alert your dentist immediately so they can increase the numbing agent. After the procedure, it is normal to experience pain, tightness, and discomfort in the jaw, but this should clear up within 7-10 days after the procedure. Ice packs and approved pain medication can help alleviate some of the discomforts during this period. You should also be very careful to avoid any foods that may irritate the removal site.

Eating After A Wisdom Tooth Removal

  • Do eat lots of soft foods such as pudding and mashed potatoes
  • Do enjoy smooth soups or broths
  • Don’t eat foods in extreme temperatures until a few days after the procedure
  • Don’t eat hard or chewy foods until recovery is complete
  • Don’t eat foods containing seeds that might get stuck in the removal site

Don’t hesitate to contact us and get the care you need for relief from your wisdom teeth!
